Gresley Colliery Band

about us

We are...

A hard working, ambitious and entertaining brass band based in the very heart of the Midlands. We provide entertaining concerts in our local community and also farther afield.

We rely entirely on income from concerts, donations, fund raising and the enthusiasm of our members. We are managed by a committee of elected members whom are elected at an annual Annual General Meeting.

We also compete as a band too. We are currently graded in the First Section and compete at both National and Regional Level. Our most recent success was in March 2007 when we were crowned Midlands Champions First Section.

4 Barsrest, the online Brass Band magazine, said of our performance...

" Eventual victory went to Gresley Colliery Band. Playing off the final number 18 draw, the band produced a performance which had so much to admire in it - certainly down to the picture which the band's MD Richard Grantham was able to create.
This was a performance that saw the band get better and better as it went along. Although the horn line was somewhat overshadowed during the piece's telling opening bars, and there were a couple of uncertainties in some solo lines, the band coped with the piece's challenges admirably, producing a full, balanced sound and featuring one of the best cornet/euphonium sextuplet sections of the day.
Despite the aforementioned uncertainties, Gresley's soloists acquitted themselves extremely well, adding to the overall quality of the performance. Everything was shaped musically by the conductor, and the work moved along nicely allowing the listener to simply sit back and, well, listen. The band can be well pleased with their efforts here, and will undoubtedly represent the Midlands with distinction in Harrogate." (4barsrest - full article here)

The Website....

Follows a simple design construction: Simple layout, easy to read, get's the job done! We have deliberately toned down the website so not to alienate visitors and also reinforce the Band's style - great quality, easy to understand and entertaining!

This site has been designed by Pete Hylton and Daniel Brough. All images, unless specified otherwise, remain the sole property of Gresley Colliery Band and may not be reproduced, copied, altered or changed in any way without the express and written permission of the Committee. All issues with the website should be forwarded to either Pete or Dan at admin@gresleycollieryband.com

The site is hosted by John at themouthpiece.com. This is a discussion forum for all things brass. Not only does it include over 6000 members, it offers bands the chance to advertise for free, recruit players and discuss brassy things. Gresley Colliery would encourage anyone to join this forum and start contributing!

Youth Band...

Gresley Colliery Band operates its Youth Band in harmony with Derbyshire Childrens Services and Nottingham City Childrens Services Child Protection Policy. As part of previous funding, we have had stringent checks on our policies and in addition to the Child Protection Policy, we also have in force an Equalities Statement. We take our obligations seriously and our ethos with regards to Child Protection is simple - No Closed Doors Ever and Parents are encouraged to stay, support their children and also get involved.

For more information about the Youth Band please visit our Youth Band page.

Sponsorship...

As with many Brass Bands, Gresley Colliery are entirely self-supporting and rely on income generated from concerts, fund-raising activities and the operation of a '50/50' Club. We are always on the lookout for a sponsor and if you or your company could help, we would love to hear from you.

Types of sponsorship could include:

If you are interested in discussing sponsorship opportunities with the Band, please either email admin@gresleycollieryband.com or speak to our Secretary, Steve Kirk on 07831668192
